A free training webinar for researchers in CABI Member countries
Overview
Good research does not automatically attract attention. For research to influence policy, generate media interest, inform public debate or contribute to wider change, researchers need to communicate their findings in ways that connect with the interests and priorities of the people they want to reach.
Different audiences care about different things. Journalists may be looking for a strong story, a surprising finding or something that affects their readers. Policymakers are often interested in what the evidence means for a particular problem, decision or policy. Members of the public may want to know how research relates to their lives, communities or future.
This one-hour training webinar will help researchers identify the audiences that matter for their research and answer a crucial question: why should this audience care about my findings?
Participants will explore practical techniques for identifying the strongest and most relevant elements of their research, understanding what makes findings newsworthy or policy-relevant, and framing findings in ways that are meaningful to different audiences.
The session will also consider how to make research engaging without exaggerating findings, overstating their significance or compromising scientific accuracy.
Who is eligible to attend?
This training is for:
- Researchers based in CABI member countries (both natural and social sciences)
- CABI scientists who are interested in increasing the reach, relevance, and impact of their research
