A free training webinar for researchers in CABI Member countries
Overview
Most researchers focus on publishing their work and increasing citations, yet research impact increasingly depends on visibility beyond academic journals. Effectively communicating science to policymakers, the media, and the public can significantly enhance a researcher’s profile, influence, and career progression while also ensuring that scientific evidence contributes meaningfully to society.
This one‑hour training webinar is designed to build researchers' capacity in CABI member countries to communicate their research clearly and strategically to non‑academic audiences. Participants will explore how science communication supports career success by increasing visibility, fostering collaborations, attracting funding, and strengthening policy engagement.
Who is eligible to attend?
This training is for:
- Researchers based in CABI member countries (both natural and social sciences)
- CABI scientists who are interested in increasing the reach, relevance, and impact of their research
What the training will cover
The webinar will be structured around three core sections:
Part 1 -- What career success means to a researcher: An exploration of career success beyond publications and citations, including visibility, influence, and real‑world impact.
Part 2 -- How reaching the public and policymakers supports career success: How engaging non‑academic audiences can lead to greater recognition, collaborations, funding opportunities, and policy relevance.
Part 3 -- The Basics of Communicating Research to Public and Policy Audiences: An introduction to practical principles and approaches for communicating scientific research clearly and effectively to non‑specialist audiences.
